Publishing responsibilities

As mentioned in the privacy section, it is illegal to reveal personal details without the permission of the persons involved. This law applies to all publications, including electronic publications such as web sites. It is the responsibility of the web site host to ensure that permission is granted to show the image, the name or any details of any person. It is also the responsibility of the web site host to ensure that all information on the web site is valid and true.

It is common for a web site to link to other web sites. Some web hosts welcome other sites to link to them. Some sites welcome links to their home page, but forbid "deep links" to pages within the site. It is the responsibility of the web host to ensure that any links are used with permission and also that all links are kept up to date and correct.

There are several laws, some new, relating to the collection and use of personal information, including The Privacy Act 1988 and The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000.
