Sharing of resources may reduce running costs in an organisation
A network can allow an organisation to share many resources that can therefore save costs. It is very easy to share peripheral devices, such as printers, among many users by using the print share facility of operating system software. A shared printer is then visible to all users on the network. It is feasible that one printer may satisfy the printing needs of 10 or more employees.
Other peripheral devices and resources, such as Internet access, can also be shared rather than having one for each user on the network.
Network software that runs from the server is also shared and therefore should be cheaper (due to site licence agreements) than software purchased individually for all users.
