World Wide Web

The World Wide Web (WWW) was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee to share formatted pages of hypertext information (web pages) across the Internet. Using the HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) standards, web browsers display the same web page in much the same way, regardless of the type of computer or web browser being used. The first widely used web browser, Mosaic, appeared in 1993 and led to today's main web browsers: Netscape, Internet Explorer and Opera.

If your network is connected to the Internet, you can look up information on virtually any topic, regardless of where it is in the world. Using a search engine such as Google lets workers find the information they need quickly and greatly improves their work efficiency.
